Beulah T. Whitby Foundation of Detroit
The Alpha Kappa Alpha Foundation of Detroit was established as a non-profit on June 4, 1991, to expand community service programs and secure property ownership, later receiving 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. The foundation funds several chapter projects, including Africare, healthcare programs, youth mentorship, senior citizen support, and college scholarships. In 2023, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Foundation of Detroit members voted to change the name of the foundation to the Beulah T. Whitby Foundation. The name was selected in honor of Mrs. Beulah Tyrell Whitby a humanitarian and social justice activist.
